22. New words entering the English language

Try these new words for today's language lesson: credit card tart, tanorexia, salad dodger, floordrobe, silent disco, Chindia, carbon footprint, grapple tackle.

The last two appear often enough in print - grapple tackle to describe an illegal action in rugby league in which an opponent is held around the head and neck, and carbon footprint as the carbon dioxide emissions for which an individual or organisation can be held responsible.
Chindia means China and India, considered as a unit as their economic power and strategic importance relates to the rest of the world. A credit card tart transfers a loan from one account to another.
Tanorexia, and salad dodger relate to the body - an obsession to have tanned skin, an obese person,
Floordrobe
is a floor littered with clothes;
Silent disco a disco in which dancers wear headphones to hear the music, thus eliminating noise pollution.
Green shoe brigade refers to a group which figures out dubious ways to make money out of the environment.
Infomania: the tendency to give immediate attention to incoming email and text messages, resulting in constant distraction.
Man flu: a minor cold contracted by a man who exaggerates the symptoms enormously.
Arse antlers -- a tattoo just above the buttocks
Butt bra-- a garment supporting the buttocks
Manscaping, a procedure in which hair is shaved or trimmed from a man's body.

* surge: a political euphemism for "escalation," or an increase in troops in a war zone; it has also come to mean any desperate last-minute manoeuvre used to stave off inevitable disaster.

* wide stance: an improbable or ridiculous excuse for one's actions.

* bacn (pronounced bacon): impersonal e-mail such as alerts, newsletters and automated reminders that are nearly as annoying as spam but which one has subscribed to and chosen to receive.

* celebu-: anything pertaining to a celebrity, such as celebutante, celebuspawn, etc.

* wrap rage: anger brought on by the frustration of trying to open a factory-sealed purchase.

* global weirding: a take-off on global warming, but referring to an increase in severe or unusual environmental activity attributed to climate change, such as freakish weather and new animal migration patterns.

* facebook: used as a verb, the act of going online to the Facebook website.

* blamestorm: like a brainstorming session, except this meeting is held to discuss why a deadline was missed or a project failed, and who was to blame or should be held responsible.

* tase or taze: to stun with a Taser, an electroshock weapon.

* upcycling: similar to recycling, except in this case converting waste materials into products of greater value or usefulness.
